Maskani Yetu ("we", "us", or "our") is operated by Maskani Yetu in Kenya. We are committed to protecting your personal data in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya), the Data Protection (General) Regulations, 2021, and applicable international best practice.

- Account information: name, email address, mobile number, national ID/passport (when required for KYC), and organisation details.
- Property information: listing descriptions, media files, pricing, ownership documentation, and land reference numbers supplied by agents or developers.
- Usage data: device identifiers, IP address, location approximations, search filters, saved properties, and analytics events that help us improve the platform.
- Communication records: enquiries sent through contact forms, chat transcripts, phone call summaries, and customer support tickets.
2. How we use your information
- Provide, personalise, and maintain our property marketplace services.
- Facilitate secure communication between property seekers and verified agents or developers.
- Comply with anti-fraud controls, regulatory audits, and legitimate law-enforcement requests.
- Send service updates, safety alerts, and marketing communications (you can opt out at any time).
- Analyse market demand trends that help improve affordable housing and infrastructure planning.
3. Lawful basis for processing
We process personal data based on one or more of the following lawful grounds:
- Contract: to deliver the property services you signed up for.
- Legitimate interest: to maintain platform security, prevent fraud, and grow the Maskani Yetu ecosystem responsibly.
- Consent: for optional marketing or when sharing your details with third-party service providers.
- Legal obligation: to satisfy regulatory reporting or KYC requirements.
4. Sharing and disclosures
We may share personal data with:
- Licensed estate agents, valuers, developers, and landlords after you request to view or reserve a property.
- Authorised service providers (payments, identity verification, analytics, customer support) bound by strict confidentiality agreements.
- Government agencies or regulators when legally required.
- Professional advisers (lawyers, auditors, insurers) acting on our behalf.
5. Data transfers
Whenever data leaves Kenya, we ensure it is protected through adequacy agreements, standard contractual clauses, or other safeguards consistent with Kenyan law.
6. Data retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose collected. Account data tied to property transactions is stored for a minimum of seven (7) years to satisfy regulatory and audit requirements. You may request deletion where permissible by law.

- Right to withdraw consent or object to certain processing activities.
- Right to data portability and to request deletion, subject to legal limitations.

We implement layered security controls including encryption in transit, role-based access, audit logging, and regular penetration testing. Suspicious activity is escalated via our security operations centre for timely response.
9. Children
Maskani Yetu is not intended for individuals under the age of 18 unless engaged via a legal guardian or licenced housing cooperative.

We review this policy annually or sooner when introducing new services. We will notify registered users of any material changes and update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
